The Lane - February 2024

UPDATES

Sights & Sounds of Christmas

We had another successful Christmas celebration at Camp Mardela! Over 2 weekends we had many visitors, musicians, and volunteers make this event possible, and we raised $1,300 for camp through this year-end event! We are glad that this joyous holiday has been celebrated annually at Camp Mardela, and we hope to continue to open our doors to the community to celebrate with us this year. Keep an eye out for the 2024 dates for Sights and Sounds of Christmas!

Dairy Queen Fundraiser

On January 15th we held our first restaurant fundraiser of the year. Incidentally, this was the first snow of the year as well! Despite the weather, we were able to raise $150 for Camp Mardela. Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser. We have several more restaurant fundraisers coming up that you can support, too!

Krabill Hall Fundraiser

We're in the homestretch - we're at 90% of our fundraising goal! Our next steps are improving the electric and insulation of the building as we finalize plans for installation of the system. Thank you for your INCREDIBLE support and help us collect the last bit we need to accomplish this project. You can make a donation to the building fund, or order custom bricks to add to the Peace Pole brick garden to support this fundraiser. Deadline for orders is March 1. Order at www.campmardela.org/keeping-krabill-cool.

BVS UPDATES

Christmas - Snow - Summer - Written Jan. 30

Hey guys, this post will be about the last two months, December and January, so it might be a little more than usual.

December of course was filled with last preparations for Sights & Sounds. That, of course, meant MORE Christmas lights and decorations. If you were here on the 9th or the 16th you saw how awesome it looked! (If not you just have to believe me.) I also made tons of Christmas cookies which was a lot of fun and very tasty.

Throughout the first two weeks of December I played the flute with the Midshore Community Band and accompanied the Tidewater Singers on the flute for a few concerts, I really enjoyed having that opportunity, especially since the chorus is so good. Then of course Christmas came, on the 24th I played a few German Christmas songs at Easton Church of the Brethren after screaming German in front of the Church during a video call with my family. Actually celebrating Christmas wasn't until the New Years weekend in PA with Jen's family. I learnt a lot of new games and saw the Duncannon Sled drop.

Then in January we started taking down our Christmas lights and decorations, which obviously isn't done yet. It was a rather calm month except for the Dairy Queen Fundraiser, which again was quite tasty and fun and also happened to be the first day of SNOW. Camp looked very beautiful with the snow, it was so exciting. Then one day the weather just switched from snow to a little summer preview. Now I'm looking forward to the next months where we have a few more things planned. You'll hear from me in the next update, until the have a great February!
